I was at my cousin's today and their daughter had a friend over named Nan. I'm not sure if it was a nn or her real name. She was a cute little blond girl and the name was rather sweet sounding on her. What could Nan be a nn for? Do you like it as a nn or a full name?

I love Nan--I've taken Calico Nan as my pirate name. :) I think it's really snappy, and it reminds me of the character in Louisa May Alcott's Little Men and Jo's Boys.

I knew a girl named Ananda, and another girl named Nanda (rhymed with "panda"). Some other ideas I like:

Fernanda
Hana / Hanna / Hannah
Nanaea / Nanaia
Flanna

I never thought of Hannah. I love it, and Nan would be perfect as a nn.

BTW, how do you pronounce Nanaia? Would it be Na-Nie-a? It looks very pretty but I'm not sure if I'm saying it right.

Nan was originally a nickname for Ann (or Anne). Anne Boleyn was derisively called "Nan Bullen" by the English, as a famous example.

Nancy is an elaboration of Nan.

Could be a nn for Ann (or other Ann- related names) or Nancy or Nanette. Also, I knew a little girl named Arianna called Nanny. Nan is adorable, but only as a nn.
