[Opinions] Lucks/Lueks
I was at a cafe (Paris) yesterday with an old friend from University when i mentioned baby names, my current obsession, and the name Lux came up (american pronounciation) 'Lucks' which she thought was the most beautiful of all my choices. I admit it is quite nice. When the man behind us, plainly eavesdropping got up to leave and said 'can't you pronounce anything right?' i'm not impressed i'm really not, but somehow 'louks' - the typical european pronounciation just doesn't sound right at all! Does anybody disagree with me?

I don't like the louks pronunciation at all. lucks is much better.Lux is one of my all-time favorites. it's short but packs a punch and I love the meaning. Lucia is very pretty too. I guess Lux is more sexy, while Lucia is more sweet. maybe people think it's too sexy for a little girl. but it's still one of my favorites, one I hope to use someday.Luxiana

Honestly, I think both pronunciations sound really unattractive. I'd choose the European pronunciation is slightly less gross-sounding, though.I'm not sure why Lux bothers me so much as a name; it's one that I think I should like. I think it sounds a bit too much like a porn star or a pole dancer to my ears. I prefer Luz, Luminita, Lucina, Lucia, Lucienne, etc.Array

Mm, yes, I heard it on the Virgin sucides, not the nicest character association, could be worse, but i still thought it pretty. Luminitsa/Luminita is very nice i think too.

Whatever works for you, y'know? There's just something about Lux that makes my skin crawl, but if you don't have that association, it is pretty snappy (though reminiscent of Meade Lux Lewis, which means I'm picturing a very large black man playing boogie woogie). I really like Luminita; I once had a character whose name was Pari Luminita, because I loved the meaning--I interpreted it as "little fairy light." :)Array
