Me to Brain: Why do you torture me so?My first thought on reading this name was snow, ya know, like a snow drift. And then my brain automatically did the math and I realized that maybe, just maybe, this child was conceived during a blizzard. Bad brain.

Probably parents who think the concept of a "drifter" is ruggedly masculine and romantic.

I think of The Drifters, of "Under the Boardwalk" fame.
Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with words.

Who don't realize that to most of us, drifter is synonymous with bum.

That might be true for most people in Delaware, but this child was born in South Dakota, where I think the image would be more like that from the Clint Eastwood film High Plains Drifter. You and I might not care for the sorts of characters Eastwood plays in Western films, but I believe the number of people who think that is an extremely "cool" image is rather large. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068699/

I kinda like Clint Eastwood's characters in his old westerns. His "drifter" character, if I recall (haven't seen the movie since I was maybe 12) was more a "rambler" in my book. lol
