[Opinions] Spyro, Spyros, Spiro
I'm suddenly really liking the names Spyro, Spyros, and Spiro. What do you think of these names, and which one do you prefer?

I like all of them. I think I prefer Spyros or Spyro. I prefer them all as nicknames for Spyridon. ¡VIVA ESPAÑA!

well since I don't like in the US I don't have the negative associations with it like others. I like Spiro, I prefer that spelling because Spyros reminds me of Gyros and Spyro looks like a spy. Spiro is cute in my opinion.Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Besides Agnew, who I wouldn't want my kids associated with, there's that stupid cartoon video game dragon. I think this name is just too much of a character name, Agnew being some sort of charater (a crappy one, but still, the man was a character in the broadest sense) and the dragon. I'd probably stay away from it.

I completely forgot about Spyro the dragon! I'm not much of a video game fan, but I do know that game.

Unless you're hardcore conservative...I'd leave them alone. Who wants to be associated with Spiro Agnew, Nixon's vice-president and a nasty piece of work in his own right? He's the guy who did such classy things as calling liberals "effete corps of impudent snobs"--I blame him for starting a lot of the "liberal media bias!" whining that occurs nowadays. The names are totally tainted for me. They sound very cool--great sounds, great meanings--but...dude. Agnew. On the other hand, with public schooling as it is, most kids have no idea who the hell Spiro Agnew is--there's the chance that he wouldn't have to deal with the association too much. But still, I'd stick with Spyridon.Array (leftist to the core)

Thanks for informing me! I hadn't heard of Spiro Agnew (I'm not American. Am interested in the recent history and politics of the US, though, but I'm not familiar with him yet), but he certainly doesn't sound like someone I'd like to have as anyone's namesake, being the leftist I am.I take you'll advice and stick to Spyridon (and Spyro & Spyros) from henceforth :-)

Well, outside the US, it wouldn't be such a problem--but if you're interested in the Vietnam War, you'll run into our "friend" Agnew. He disgusts me.Spyridon used to be one of my absolute favourites. I think it's just fabulous. :)Array
