Help[Opinions] Waverly.
This used a fn caught my eyes, watching some end credits to a movie. Since I couldn't learn if the person were a male or female, I had to use IMDb (searching by movie title) to figure this out and it turns out that it was a male member of the crew.
At first sight I thought it female, but then thought this over and could only see it as a name for a male. (I checked for other bearing 'Waverly', and indeed only found it on males or used as lastnames.)
I quite like it so that's new on my outside list.

I 100% percent adore this name, and was upset not to see it on this site... however, I think it is very much a girls name.

Truthfully, I don't like this name for a boy or a girl. I can't put my finger on it, but something about it doesn't sound right to me. It seems more like a place name than a person's name to me.

Makes me think of the character in The Joy Luck Club (who was named after the street her family lived in so that she'd "always return home", as her mother believed). I love the book and I liked the character, but the names is still NMSAA.

It's generally used as a female name, actually. (Of course, it's quite uncommon, but all popular culture Waverlys I can think of are chicks.)
Waverly is Buttercup and Westley's daughter, and it's a character in The Joy Luck Club (if I recall correctly--I know Amy Tan has used it before, and for female characters).
I dislike it on either sex, though. I think it's unattractive in the extreme.

I'm not familiar with "The Joy Luck Club", so of course I've never known that. I did a Wikipedia search, to see what's all about and I sort of know why I haven't heard about this novel. It's because it's about a Chinese-American immigrant family, so it doesn't have any greater merit, by context, for being really known here in Denmark.
I could have heard about it, but then only by the Danish title, which could have been twisted in translation. They often do that so you get easily confused and all.
