Not sure how this will go over in the UK, but in the USA I think it would be a good "different but not too different" choice, as it sounds like a sublte shift from presently fashionable boys' names such as Evan, Owen, Ethan, etc.

Egan? Well, I think it's ok. Not a fantastic name, but not really bad either.
