Help[Opinions] June on a boy?
Is June too feminine to be used on a boy? The first June I ever met was a boy and when i was younger I thought it was a boys name only. I've always loved it for a boy, but found it unusable. WDYT?

In theory, I suppose you could argue that it's a month and therefore neutral. However, it has a long history of being used as a feminine name, and the month was named after a goddess, so I think it leans very, very strongly toward the feminine side.

No, just no. When I take a notion for a strange name, I ask myself the question: Would *I* be happy to walk into a roomful of strangers and introduce myself as [insert name here], or would I be embarrassed? If a name fails that test, it shouldn't be given to a real child.
ETA: Just to clarify ... I'm thinking in terms of formal situations in particular, like a businesswoman making a presentation. I've grudgingly ruled out GP names like Absynthe and Tiger in this way.

I don't know about Tiger.
I can imagine a strong, beautiful woman coming in for a presentation, introducing herself as Tiger, and everyone backing away in fear...

That has rather made my day, lol.
I suppose it takes a very rare type of woman to pull off a name like Tiger, and the chances of such a woman coinciding with the name aren't high. If she were my daughter then physically beautiful I really doubt ... and while I'd hope she could be strong, it's something I struggle with myself, and whether it's nurture or nature or a combination of the two, I don't know if I'd ever produce a child who could live up to a name like Tiger.

I wouldn't suggest it. I have, however, heard of Junie (JOO-nee; not sure of spelling) on Latino boys. Perhaps a nn for Junio? So maybe it's not so 'out there' after all. :b
Edited: It's short for Junito. Not sure if it's Juni or Junie, though. (BTW, it's the name of a character on a tv show called "Noah's Arc")

June isn't really a boy's name for me, but it could work as a nn for Junius, an old Latin name.

Technically I should support it, as the general rule for me is that if it's a word, I can't tell you that it's only suitable for a specific sex. I'm just not sure if I could see it working out in real life.

I agree with Clippy. Hypothetically it could be considered a unisex name. But I still only like it on a girl. And unlike Clippy, I cannot picture a boy with this name. I love June (on a girl), btw.

Ehh, I SUPPOSE it could work, hypothetically.
I mean, June's a month name, which is technically a word name, which I suppose could be considered unisex. But on the other hand, the word is derived from Juno, who was a goddess, after all.
Also, while June on a male could work in theory, I think it's generally seen as too feminine of a name, so I don't know if a guy could carry it, really. I think it could work in the MN spot, but as a FN? It might just be best to categorize it as a guilty pleasure of sorts.
(Although, I must say that I understand where you're coming from; while I love June as a girls' name and think it's perfectly feminine, there is something about it that's delightfully "butch," for lack of a better word. It has a slight masculine air about it, but then again, that's part of why I like it as a girls' name. I can picture a literary male named June in my head, but just a literary character, not a real person. I'm also seeing him as rather effeminate-- nothing wrong with that, but it certainly drives home the fact that it's a girls' name in my book!)

I guess i could see a slightly effeminate male June. The boy I knew who was named this was highly not effeminate though. He played football and basketball and was overall quite manly. I guess that's why I get the image of him when I hear the name, rather than a girl.

I suppose I should know better by now, but my brain doesn't seem to want to stop jumping to conclusions. :P
