[Opinions] Augustana
What do you think of the name Augustana for a girl. Also, what mn's would you pair with it and what nn's do you think would work?

Augustana is a college in Illinois, so that's what I think of. I imagine that if I could get that association removed, I would think it is pretty enough, if a bit long.

I much prefer Augusta or Augustina
Augustana seems a little clumsy and heavy in feel to me,its like two names awkwardly pushed together, the middle name would have to be short like Augustana Rose, Augustana Grace, Augustana Lily,
I think it works better as a middle name Lily Augustana, Julie Augustana, Ruth Augustana,
NN Gussy Ana Tanny

Fat ditto to the two previous posters. Augustana looks/is made up. I would go with August Anna (gorgeous, though I believe it's one of Garth Brooks's daughters' names, if that bothers you...no idea how I remember things like that). I prefer Augustine (on a boy or girl) or Augustina (always thought it was frilly/silly, but then I saw it on a little girl in a Gap ad and she just rocked the name, totally pulled it off).

Augustana is the name of an indie rock band; they sing the song "Boston". This would be the same thing as naming a child Nirvana."Fathers be good to your daughters,
Daughters will love like you do.
Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers.
So mothers, be good to your daughters too." - John Mayer

Yeah, but I wouldn't name a child Nirvana. Nirvana was also a word long before it was a band, and Augustana isn't. And I just wouldn't name a child after a band. Sorry.

I don't think you understood me, I was trying to say that it would be awful to name a child Augustana because it is a band. I wholeheartedly agree with you!"Fathers be good to your daughters,
Daughters will love like you do.
Girls become lovers, who turn into mothers.
So mothers, be good to your daughters too." - John Mayer

Ohhhhhhh. Lol, we are in agreement.I was going to add, "I wouldn't name my child Modest Mouse just because I like the band!" Thought that might be a little unnecessary, though.

I don't find it attractive in the slightest--I have a hateon for most -ana names, though. I think Augusta or Augustina would be far prettier. Augustana Ruth comes to mind first. Augustana Edith, Augustana Ivy, Augustana Helen, Augustana Christine, Augustana Quinn, Augustana Ingrid?I think it works best with a one or two syllable middle name.Array
