[Opinions] Teresine
My mom is named Teresine, and this being the names board I would like to share a bit of information. Teresine is a family name which can be traced in my family all the way back to the 1600s, the oldest female daughter is the one who recieves the name, my sister is also named Teresine (although it is obvious she might not carry on this tradition, because people used to make fun of her and call her "kerosene"). Our family has preserved a Bible that is 400 years old and contains the history of many of our ancestors written in the note pages, including the Teresines of the 1600s. It is clear that this name is like the names Josephine and Christine, it looks like simply like a combination of Teresa and the ending -ine. Teresa + ine = Teresine.

sounds like some sort of disease... no offense :-D
You're fortunate to have a piece of family history like that Bible!
I hope your sister, if she has a daughter someday, will realize how inconsequential childhood teasing is compared to the value of a family tradition like that.

ditto
Kerosene doesn't really come to my mind, but Theresienstadt does... Awful association that makes kerosene glamour and all.
Since it's a family tradition it's nice. It's definitely unusual, I've never heard it before. I'm not sure what I think of it, I mean I've heard worse, but like you said about the kerosene association.
You don't need to post this here - the people who use the Name Facts board will see it and reply to it if there's anything to say. :-)
