I have known more male Ariels than female, so I have no problem seeing it on a boy. Granted, I didn't know any of these Ariels when I was at the age when it was still funny to make Little Mermaid jokes. Anyhow, they all pronounce the name AW-ree-ull or aw-RyELL, not AIR-ee-ull like the Little Mermaid. I think it's a gorgeous name. And he can always go by Ari if he's teased.
