I know exactly what you mean. Most of my favourite names have personal meanings that transcend far beyond etymologies, popularity & sound. And I think that applies to most of the posters in one way or another. That's why I always appreciate it when posters tell the story behind a particular name & why it is so special to them - like you did with Etienne.

Ditto on Steven/Stephen. I have never liked that name. I find it plain & boring, but I don't mind it on someone else's child.
