Help[Opinions] Jutlandia.
That was the name of a Danish hospital ship, send to help out under the Korean war. The name is the Latin version of Jutland. The peninsula part of Denmark, attached to the top of Germany, on where I live. There's also a song made as an honor to it, made by one of our most popular male singers about 23-25 years ago. And it's also one of my faves of all time.
Jutlandia is prn yut-land-DE-ah btw.
So here's my question:
Would that be terrible to name a little girl? I mean the name is a reminder of a ship going to tend to soldiers in a very terrible situation. Because everytime people will hear it they think about the ship. Or the song for that matter.
But on the other hand, it would be like naming your little girl, after a part of this country you love so much.
I'm just trying this out so what are your opinions on this matter. Is it too crazy?

I like the name Jutlandia alot. I personally wouldn't really look twice at seeing the name, but many people may think you made it up ect...

Hmm. It's awfully hard for me to say since I don't have the context.. It doesn't sound crazy to me, though. I think it depends on the kinds of feelings associated with the ship, if it'll remind people of that. If it gives people, more than anything, the warm fuzzies about national heroism and mercy, pretty much universally (instead of reminding them of wartime and tragedy) I'd say it's okay.. especially since it's also a geographic name, which is usually a nice thing.
It's a bit long, also - four syllables usually needs a nickname, in my experience anyway.

I say go for it, I think it's a great idea. I have a thing for geographical names, and the war association, for me, is more of a "positive war association". Which sounds kind of awful but I mean, the war may have been horrible but she was there to _help_, you know? White as a maiden, brave as an eagle, or however the lyrics go. :-) I like the general sound of it as well, but I pronounce it yut-LAND-ee-ah, that's how it's said here. Which reminds me - when I was little, I planned to name all my future daughters after the Stena Line ships. Danica, Germanica, Jutlandica, Britannica etc. :-D

Yes, Kim Larsen may not be as big here as he is in Denmark but I think Swedes in genereal at least know who he is. I don't know that much about him but I do know that song. :-)
I still like some of the Stena Line names, and the ships are still lovely, but naming ALL my daughters after them is not something I'm still planning on doing... :-)

I`ve never heard of Kim Larsen actually, nor Jutlandia.
And I`m more familiar with the ships going to Finland; ie Rosella, Mariella, Isabella, Cinderella, Amorella etc. And Symphony, Festival, Europa, aand... Birka Princess?
I`m not sure what I think of Jutlandia as a name, but if you really want to you should go for it. There are already so many girls with all the same names, so why not distinguish her a bit.

Ah, okay, so maybe he's not at all that well known here in Sweden then, it was just a feeling I had but I may have been wrong. I'm actually more familiar with the ships going to Finland too, maybe that's why I like the others better as names, Mariella and Amorella etc only remind me of loud, obnoxious, drunk people passing out in the corridors during 24 hour cruises to Helsinki. ;-) I do like Isabella though!
