[Opinions] Gemma
What do you all think of Gemma? I hear it's semi-popular, maybe even a bit dated in parts of Europe... I'm from the US and have never heard this name used here, so that isn't a concern of mine. A combo I like is Gemma Sofia. I'm open to other middle name suggestions as well. Thanks in advance!

I quite like it, but it is pretty popular here in the UK. There are two girls in my school year called Gemma.

Gemma is a lovely name. It's known, but not overly used. I've never met one here in the US, but on another site there was a woman who named her dd Gemma. Gemma Sofia is terrific. Others (sorry if any are repeats):Gemma Catherine / Cathleen
Gemma Lucy
Gemma Tess
Gemma Daphne
Gemma Rosalind
Gemma Lily
Gemma Emma (I couldn't resist)
Gemma Danielle
Gemma Celeste
Gemma Liv
Gemma Susan
Gemma Laurel

I think Gemma is great and a break in the sea of Emmas. Gemma Sofia (spelled Sophia in this case) is beautiful!

I love the name Gemma, almost as much as Emma.

I love Gemma, but the more I consider it, the more I'm afraid that it's a very short step away from the over used Emma. That maybe I'm just kidding myself and people will go "yeah, ok, Emma- Gemma..."

Very dated in Europe, but people still use it nonetheless. However in the US I would be tempted to use it.

Like you said, it's been very overused here in the past (I'm in Scotland) so I'm rather bored of it. It's definitely better than Emma, though, and the fact that it's rare in the US (without being 'weird') is a bonus. I prefer it spelt Jemma. How about ...Gemma Gabrielle
Gemma Madeline
Gemma Josephine
Gemma Cassandra
Gemma Bethany
Gemma Henrietta
Gemma Felicia
Gemma Dorothy
Gemma Phoebe
Gemma Lilian
Gemma Susannah
Gemma Vanessa

Gemma is great, I love it. I've always been a fan of this name actually. Here is Australia it seems to always be around, but not in crazy numbers, even though it is consistantly used though. Gemma Sofia is nice, but I'd prefer Gemma Sophie.

I really like Gemma a lot - it's a pretty name with character that also ages well. I think it's very "different," especially in the United States. I love Gemma Sofia!

I think Gemma Sofia is lovely, though you're right rather popular, but if not in your area than you're home free!
