Vivian and Harper seem both masculine to me. Vivian would be nice (for a girl) as Viviane or Viviana and I really hate Harper even on a boy, sorry...

I think Harper is hideous. Vivian is timeless and beautiful.

I like Harper, mostly because of Harper Lee. Viviana is a better bet than Vivian imo ... but then there's Vivien Leigh :-)

Harper is too surname-y for me but I like Vivian a lot. I go back on forth on whether I prefer Vivian or Vivienne. It's a nice name and sounds quite elegant to me. I picture a business woman.

Vivian: a smart, well mannered, handsome man. More intellectual than sensual. Witty. Maybe a bit vain. Viv, Van, or Vee, if any nickname

Harper: I imagine a young man, creative, gentle, capable but unreliable, neither unattractive nor striking. Could be ruthless, or paternal.

Harper on a female: I'd picture a sheltered, gentle, frustrated, pretty young blonde woman, insecure, talented and well liked, but won't find true happiness till after her youth has left her.

On either sex Harper doesn't lend itself to nicknames. Someone would have to bestow one that wasn't based on Harper.

Vivienne (sp this way only) is my favorite girl's name. Viv or Vivvie are two nn's I'd consider but probably not use. Well, I'd use Viv just cuz one syllable's convenient when yelling...

I like Harper b/c of Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird. It doesn't have any cute nn's that I know of but I don't think it needs.

I love Vivian for a boy (it's one of my favorites)- Viviana for a girl. I'm not sure which gender you had in mind when you posted, but when I hear Vivian I picture a sweet, red-haired boy. I can't really picture a Harper because my only association with the name is the author Harper Lee.

I have a best friend with this last name, and since he is named after his dad and he hates him, and he is in the service, but anyway, he goes by Harper...it will always be a last name to me, and I will always think of him...a skater, punk kid that drinks too much, smokes too much, likes to party and one of the sweetest, most caring and gentle guys I have ever met. Def. had some problems in his life, but he is one of a kind.
