Yes I've heard from several places that Zane is a form of John. I even know a boy named Zane specifically because his fathers name is John (brothers are Sean, Ian, Jeannot and Yannis)

I just thought that it was interesting that the two are so similar and yet aren't connected. So I thought I would see if anyone knew about an older connection between the two.
