Hi, I know that Timur or Taimur means Iron but Im just not sure its in mongolian. I think it means Iron in turkish because somebody told me that Timur Lenk was from a tribe that spoke a language from the turkish family. Have you ever heard of this? Im not really sure of this. Could someone tell me more on this subject. Thanks
Thank u so much for letting me know!! (... now I just need to know the meaning of a dream in which a person named Taimur appears!!)
Well, well! Just like Stalin (= Steel). I wonder if it really was his name, or if he adopted it to fit his image.
I've seen him referred to as Timur the Lame in old histories. Does Lenk mean: chieftain, or is it part of his name? (I assume that the Lame bit is a false etymology - am I right?)

It means "Iron" and its not lenk...his full name was tamerlane or timur the lame...he lost one of his legs in battle..hence the name tamerlane
