I went to this site on German names and found the name Mehlinger, which means one who works with flour. I didn't find Liniger but I think an er ending in German is like an occupational name. Like we have butcher, teacher, and worker, and also driver and dancer. English is similar to German because it's an Germanic Language, so we have an er ending in English too. Maybe it will help you find what your name means. Metzger is butcher in German and Schreiber is secretary or scribe. Finding out what your family's occupation a long time ago may help.
