[Opinions] Re: Welsh names
in reply to a message by Alice
I believed that Arianwen was prounouced the way that it was- it was prounouced (ah-RAHN-wen) on the website- because another form of this name, Aranwen said that it was prounouced (ah-ree-AHN-wen) And, that did not seem right to me since Arianwen had an (i) and Aranwen did not. But, I could have gotten that wrong. I copied these names down on a website and I might have mispelled some of them since I was in a hurry and have horrible handwriting. The website actually spells the name Aedan, Aeddan.
I love the name Bran from the Irish legend of this saint coming to America before all other Europeans. I think Madeleine L'Engle (author of A Wrinkle in Time), uses him in one of her stories. "But blessed is he who after death can approach the Lord and find friendship in the Father's embrace" -somewhere in Beowulf?
