I think it's neat in a 70's/80's name sort of way. Like
Stacey or
Stephanie. Plus it has a nice sound to it. I don't like
Kimmy, but I think
Kim is okay. I was friends with a really nice girl named
Kim in college (which was short for
Kimberly). I think she'd probably get called
Kim a lot, but nothing that can't be fairly easily corrected.
I think it's dated, but a little later than the 60's (to me anyway). I'd imagine it still hangs around because of the -ly ending.
Kimberly is my favorite spelling. I've never heard of the town
Kimberley, but the association with diamonds isn't really a plus for a name for me.
I've known several Kimberlys my age (20's) throughout my life. I think all of them went by
Kim. I don't know any of their middle names, except a guy I went to high school with and his wife just had a baby girl named
Kimberly Lyn (which doesn't sound the greatest).
I can't see it getting more popular at all.
