Neither of those associations are what come first for me. My first one is kea (prn the same) which is an alpine parrot native to NZ. They are very intelligent but they like to destroy people's cars lol. The second association is the fact that in Maori 'kia' is a part of speech, sort of like the imperative, eg Kia ora means 'be well'.
Anyway! These don't really matter outside of New Zealand, but I still can't get to grips with it as a name, even though it sounds nice. I don't think it's too short to be a legit name (it's no shorter than Mia, Tia, Pia, or Gia, which are all used as full names).
Other names is could be short for: Katarina, Keely, Kalliope, Kiri.
