I'm in the U.S. as well, in Washington State. And I've only ever heard it pronounced this way. The surname McCallum is pronounced this way so I'm surprised anyone would say it any other way. I don't doubt you, it's just a surprise.There's always the Calum spelling, which might solve the "call-ball" thing.
