I think it is great with old gentleman names. My favourite ones:

Alfred Caspar - an adventurer from the XIXth century.

Alfred Eustace - I can picture this one taking his eyeglass out of his waistcoat. I would say cutely nerdy.

Alfred Noel - Pleasant and original. I'm not usally fond of Noël, but I think it works well.
