How is Daisy short for Marguerite? Or Peggy for that matter? I'm confused.

Marguerite is the French word for 'daisy' so it has been used as a nn for it in English speaking countries over the years. Peggy is a traditional nn for Margaret and how it came about is a little confusing but my best guess is Margie -> Maggie -> Meggie -> Peggy
...or maybe Marg -> Mag -> Meg -> Peg -> Peggy
...or maybe Marg -> Mag -> Meg -> Peg -> Peggy
