Sign-Ups:
Rex and Daphne Rollins met at a political speech – Rex was there to support the candidate speaking; Daphne was there to protest every stance the candidate took. They got to talking (well, debating, really) after the speech and realized that, aside from their political differences, they actually had a lot in common. And, while they might not agree with each other on political issues, they could respect each other’s views and passion.
Round One:
When Daphne began getting sick in the mornings only a few months into their marriage, Rex and Daphne were sure that she just had the flu! When it persisted, they finally decided to get Daphne to a doctor. Both were shocked that she was already pregnant, but they were also overjoyed! Of course, naming their daughter was a challenge. Rex wanted something classy, like Vivian; Daphne wanted something a little more creative, like Amethyst. Finally, they were able to agree.
Round Two:
Daphne and Rex felt a little overwhelmed when they discovered that Daphne was pregnant again shortly after Vi turned one-year-old! And they were even more overwhelmed when they found out that they were expecting twins! Luckily, at least Albert seemed to be quiet; unluckily, Flora has very powerful lungs. These personalities have carried through their lives, so far. Albert prefers to be observant and, when forced to speak, barely whispers. Flora prefers to jabber and has no problem striking up conversations with random strangers.
Rex and Daphne were feeling good about their family when Daphne realized that she was expecting, again! Little Georgie was named after Rex’s recently-deceased grandmother and after Daphne’s favorite city in the world.
Round Three:
Rex and Daphne have had another daughter and another son! Tilly, their daughter, is a little tomboy. She loves toddling around outside, getting dirty and scraping up her knees. Often, Rex and Tilly will go outside and play catch (gently, of course). Tilly’s best friend is the boy-next-door, Finn Porter. Finn is only a year older than Tilly and his parents, Will and Nora, often joke with Rex and Daphne that it would be funny if their kids grew up and got married!
Most recently, Daphne and Rex have had a son! Mack’s was a very difficult pregnancy, but neither Rex nor Daphne likes to talk about it. Suffice it to say, he’s here and he’s healthy. Mack was named MacBride Charles Reginald for Daphne (using the mother’s maiden name is a tradition in Rex’s family and he begged Daphne for this son to be named so), her father (Charles MacBride), and Rex, himself.
Round Four:
Little Nemo Rollins is the envy of every parent in the neighborhood – he’s just so gosh-darned CUTE! With his nose always in a book, his glasses magnifying his eyes until they look like they’re taking up half his face, and his child’s-voice coming up with words like ‘ironic’ and ‘theoretically,’ every parent is always complimenting Daphne and Rex on how adorable Nemo is. Unfortunately, these traits are not as envied in school, where Nemo is often bullied because he’s much smaller and younger than his classmates. Daphne and Rex are looking into a different school for Nemo, which Tilly and Mack don’t think is fair.
Round Five:
Vi and Quartz met in their sophomore year; Quartz was an exchange student from France. They were partnered together for a French project, became fast friends, and soon began dating. Almost as soon as they graduated, they were engaged, although Rex and Daphne were both stressing to Vi that she wait and go to college before she “settled down.” Vi wouldn’t listen, though, and has decided to go to college in Paris, where Quartz will also be attending ‘université.’
Round Six:
Rex and Daphne have had their first grandchild! Charlotte Nina Lecomte was born almost exactly nine months after Vi (or Virginie, as she now calls herself) and Quartz got married. Unfortunately, Rex and Daphne have been unable to meet their granddaughter, yet, since Vi and Quartz are still living in Paris. Rex and Daphne are planning to get on the plane ASAP (a week’s time looks good) and are bringing the whole family with them.
Round Seven:
Albert’s getting married to the girlfriend he’s had since kindergarten! Rex and Daphne are starting to worry that all of their children are going to marry young, which they have some experience with and would wish an easier life for their children. But, they’re children are determined to follow their own hearts.
Rex and Daphne aren’t half so worried about Albert as they are about Flora and her new boyfriend! It isn’t that there’s anything particularly wrong with Perry, it’s just the age difference makes Rex and Daphne nervous. However, Perry seems like a good man (despite the fact that he enjoys dressing up like Dr. Frank-n-Furter), and he and Flora make a remarkable couple.
Round Eight:
Three new grandchildren for Rex and Daphne! First was Albert’s and Xanthe’s little boy, Magnus, who has inherited his father’s dark hair and his mother’s everything else! Magnus is a little charmer and probably a little spoiled from the attention he gets from strangers.
Next, Vi and Quartz had another little girl! Éve is not a beautiful toddler, but Daphne often says that she will be ‘striking,’ someday. And, when Éve smiles, it lights up her entire face.
Finally, Flora and Perry had a little girl, as well! They named her Janet, which perplexed Rex until Daphne and Flora explained that Janet is the name of a character in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which has special significance to Flora and Perry. Plus, Flora and Perry both love vintage things, which explains their little girl’s middle names.
Round Nine:
Rex and Daphne’s youngest daughters are in significant relationships! Georgie met her fiancé, Burke Thomas (NOT! Thomas Burke), two years ago in a class at Columbia. Burke was working towards his doctorate; Georgie was just a freshman. They were paired up on a project and Georgie, who had grown up in upper-middle-class suburbs her whole life, was incredibly attracted to Burke’s “bad-boy”-ness. About six months after they started dating, Burke revealed that he was actually the son (and heir apparent) of the Richard Thomas (think Donald Trump, but with better hair). By that time, Georgie had fallen in love with the man Burke was, rather than the image he projected. They were engaged a year later and are getting married in about two weeks.
Tilly is living with her boyfriend of one year, Jay York. They met when Tilly was jogging with her best friend since toddlerdom, next-door-neighbor Finn Porter (who has turned out to be gay). Finn suddenly waved at and called out to this young man who was playing shuffleboard with the local senior citizens. The young man came over and gave Finn a hug, which made Tilly assume that the young man was gay, too. Finn introduced the two (“Tilly Rollins, meet Jay York; Jay, meet Tilly.”) and explained that Jay was a few years ahead of himself at the local dance studio. Jay, apparently, was Finn’s mentor there. ‘Definitely probably gay, then,’ Tilly thought. They said good-bye, and, later that same day, when Tilly was out on a blind date that Georgie and Burke had set her up on (with Burke’s younger brother, actually), they saw each other again. Tilly invited Jay to sit (Burke’s brother was BOOOOOORING!) and things were, um, “straight”-ened out. They’ve been seeing each other ever since.
