If it's GERard, I like it - certainly more than I could ever like Gerald. But if it's geRARD, include me out. Same with Bernard.

I am opposite. Much prefer the stress on the second syllable.

I suppose it depends on what you (and I) grew up hearing. Because both are widely used. Unlike friends of my mother's, who named their daughter Fiona but pronounced it FIE Oh na. Toe-curlingly awful!
