I don’t think Saki works especially well, mostly because that’s how most non-Japanese pronounce sake, so I would say that would be problematic on a child who does not speak or live in Japan.

I’m half Japanese - I do find it weird when people of European descent have Asian names, unless they’ve lived there. In general, I think the “Western world” has a problem romanticising “exotic” or foreign cultures and naming is part of that. It works the opposite way too - I know plenty of Asians who have chosen very posh British names for their English names, Downton Abbey style. But it is more prolific the other way around and I personally feel uncomfortable with it.

But that’s me! I wouldn’t use a name that did not come from a culture my child has a close connection with. Everyone has their own taste.
