Changing the spelling to Ville wouldn't work as that's pronounced differently, it's also the most common nickname for both Vilhelm and William so I think people would just assume that Vile was a typo or something.
And I'd rather name him Eggbert than Emilio. I don't like to use the "WT" stamp on names, but I don't have any other words for Emilio. It's used in Sweden though and wouldn't be weird, I just absolutely hate the name.
Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.
