Maude sounds like a free spirit.
I like that it rhymes with bawd and odd and that it sounds the same as mod.
...if I'm remembering correctly,
Maude was Death's only human friend in
Death: A Life, which I liked when I read it. In
Harold and Maude,
Maude was an impish old lady who had an affair with a 19 year old and then killed herself on her 80th birthday. And, on a geeky youtube channel I used to watch, one of the main contributors was named
Maude (or
Maud, idk); she was a blonde Australian probably in her early 30s. I think those are the only times I've encountered the name.
I used to like it a lot. I still think it's kind of cute and appreciate the simplicity of it, but
Bette and
Lorne appeal to me more right now.
