Charles and I were delighted to open our home to orphans Ariel, Elisha, Abner, and Jules. They are all doing wonderfully, and we recently took them to have their photographs taken, as you can see.
Ariel is doing well in school, getting excellent marks. She and Elisha are attending Miss Hewitt's Academy, which is a short walk from our house. She has become good friends with several girls, including our neighbor, Charlotte, however she is very shy around visitors. Her only problem adjusting is that she no longer gets to ride her horse across the countryside, as we live in a large city, but she does get to ride him when we take visits to the country.
Elisha is very friendly and fun (though, i'll admit, impatient), and has also made several friends, though it has surprised me how the girls don't always stick together and make the same friends. Elisha is also doing well at Miss Hewitt's, she is particularly excelling in dancing lessons. We have had a few problems with Elisha telling her siblings what to do, as she is one of those take charge people, however, Abner never listened anyway, and Ariel is slowly learning to stick up for herself.
Abner, whom we sometimes call Abe, is a walking representative of the saying "boys will be boys". You don't know how much trouble it was to get him dressed up in that neat suit for a picture. Abe is attending the local elementary school along with Jules, however, he is doing somewhat poorly in his classes as he hates school. Abe is much better at working with his hands than his brain. Last week he came home with a ripped knee in his pants and was dirtier than usual. After much questioning, I found out he had gotten in a fight with a boy who had called him "stupid". Charles and I are thinking about enrolling him in a private school that is not to far away.
Jules, though only two years younger, is the exact opposite of Abe. He is such a sweet boy, and is very intelligent. Charles is very fond of him, as Jules looks up to him so much. Being raised by his grandparents, Jules had never been around a younger man before. He also loves playing with children his age, both boys and girls, though he has been getting to the age where they begin to separate. Jules is very bouncy and sweet.
Thanks for doing this...I
