I remember first hearing this name when I was in high school when a friend of mine and I started watching The L Word of which one of the love interests was a character named Lara. Though the character wasn't on for very long and I don't remember her doing anything in particular that was infamous. Lara is a pretty name in much better to the alternative Laura... with that said it is worth taking into consideration that she may be called Laura... at least occasionally. With that said I will throw in my two cents and suggest the name Lyra. It's a very similar to Lara and distinct enough people won't mistake it for something else. Both are great names though.
