[Opinions] Re: Alec (standalone name)

Alec Baldwin is pretty much the only person I know of with the name both in terms of regular people and in celebrity, to me it's a name of mononymous association & the potential problems that could come with that.
If I can remove that from my consciousness Alec is a very distinct and handsome name. I always imagine a young man that is a little bit smarmy but also very very clever.
But there's also the issue of the association with smart alec. Not to mention the name Alex is so monstrously popular it's most guaranteed a person named Alec would be mistakenly called Alex perhaps multiple times a day all his life & that sounds annoying and burdensome. (At least in the US)
This one I prefer as a stand-alone, I think it would be doubly confusing to have it as a nickname for Alexander, again, when he isn't Alex. (Again, in the US)
