There are quite often alternative forms of names where one consonant is substituted for another, and B and V are classic examples. Barbara in Russian is Varvara, D'vora (I think ...) in Hebrew becomes Deborah in English - and our lips and tongues are in much the same positions for the two sounds, it's just that the B is finished more quickly! So the V will just be a sound that your (English, presumably?) ancestors felt more comfortable with.
