I think it's a great combo. Pairing the more feminine sounding mn with the more masculine fn is a fabulous idea. Also, Hilaire as a mn makes the misspellings less likely, and I'd doubt a lot of people (tho I'm sure some since you saw it) would think about Edmund Hilary.
