I'm pretty sure it's Irish - it was in a book I read about an Irish-Australian family when I was at school, I think it was called "The Harp in the South".From what I remember from the last time I looked it up :-D it could be a regional shortening of Thaddeus. Pronunciation - I have no idea sorry.

I was thinking of Thaddeus, too. And from what I've been able to find out, the Aramaic word "thad" doesn't mean "heart", but "breast".Andy ;—)
