[Facts] Re: The meaning of Harris
in reply to a message by Nanaea
Haris, or Charis, is also Greek girl's name meaning Grace. Haros, or Charon, of course was a more sinister fellow.

Did we get "Charis" on the Master List? I remember "Charon" is there.
Hey, what's your dog's full name? If it gets slow at work today, I'm going to anagram human-sounding names for all seven of my dogs!
We're not weird -- just misunderstood by teachers and parents. :)

SEVEN? It was five not long ago! A few more, and the Health Department guys and the reporter/camera crew from Channel 18 will be out to your singlewide before ya know it...
(Incidentally, I know you're not a librarian at Adam Clayton Powell Middle School, but I couldn't spell "Mario Proccachino"...)

Fortunately, where I live, the town ordinance permits a home-owner to keep up to 10 dogs. Not that I'm planning to go up to 10. Well... Maybe not. :)
"Mario Proccacino"?? Geeze, Daividh, how the hell old *are* you? :) I had to do a 'net search to find out he was the guy who ran against Lindsay in '69.

Told you I couldn't spell his name. Neither could most of the voters, which may have impacted his dismal record at the polls. My folks lived nearby in Jersey back then, which provided me chances to swing by and watch the insanity in The City.
New York politics was also an "easy A" subject for term papers when I was in college, back around then (I took a helluva lot of Poli Sci courses for someone who ended up in industrial management). Even at our humdrum Midwestern college, we had our share of outrageous Black Activist P.S. profs, plus some white guys who ended up as policy wonks for Jimmy Carter. Push the right buttons in class and term papers, and they ate it up.
Never took any mythology courses, tho. Would've helped now.

Noo Joisey, eh? I didn't think you were a native-born Southerner -- I couldn't detect a Southern drawl in your postings. :)
I have, though, gotten the impression over the past month that you're somewhat of a Republican. :) One of my favorite quotes, by the witty composer and concert pianist Oscar Levant:
"The only difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Democrats allow the poor to be corrupt, too."

Actually, my parents transferred from the Midwest to NJ when I was already in college, and subsequently went their own ways.
My mother, however, later became NY-NJ big time, marrying an Italian-American mayor of a NJ town who was not only the son of a NJ mayor ('nother small town), but has splendid Noo Yawk connections as well: my stepdad is a first cousin of Sebastian Leone, former Borough President of the Bronx and now one of your Supreme Court justices. I've never met the cugino, which is a pity, since it'd be handy if I got pulled over on LI while stalking you... :)
Don't know about the political connection. I abstained from voting in the last Pres election, as both candidates pissed me off. Have voted both sides of the fence over the years, even for Clinton (first time) and McGovern at times.
Guess I'm just one of those independents; belong to Handgun Control and the Sierra Club but pro-life and wipe my cat's butt with ACLU mail. So much for labels.

US party anagrams
Democratic Party:
"Mad erotica crypt": democrats admittedly have more fun (rumors about FDR's climactic demise, JFK's relationship with Monroe, Clinton's to-be-missed antics)
"A tidy correct map" is what inspired Clinton to order his his "cramped atrocity" in Belgrade.
"Red attrocity camp" is how the Democratic party as perceived by some extreme right-wing paranoiacs.
Republican Party:
G.W. Bush bacame "abruptly, a Prince" ! Hey, I thought the US was not a hereditary monarchy! We seriously doubt that US foreign policy will "appreciably turn". However the "aberrancy pulpit" is expected to turn the clock backwards with domestic issues such as abortion, etc.
"Burly crap in tape" is what got my favorite Republican, Richard Nixon, ousted (he even had a Greek VP!)

Nope I dont thing Charis was on the mistress list. Foe matching tetruplets, Chrisa, Rischa and Arisch come to mind, but it would be scraping the bottom of the barrell :)
As far as my doggy is concerned, his name is Rover. An extremely rare -- maybe even unique -- name for a dog this side of the Aegean :P
Help, we need some good off-topic stimuli to get things rolling !

Rover????
You can't call your dog just plain ol' *Rover*! Even if it *is* a bizzare dog name in Greece! Okay, I'm going to have to embellish this pooch's name just a little bit. I hereby declare that your dog's full name shall be: "Rover Cleveland", in honor of the 24th canine President of the United States. :)
"Rover Cleveland"="Carl Denver Love" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Clover Lavender")
Here are the names of my own dogs:
"Dashiell Hambone" (named after the famous, canine mystery writer, author of *The Maltese-Dog Falcon* and *The Thin Mutt* -- both of which were made into movies starring Humphrey Dogart and William Poodle, respectively)="Daemion Hellbash" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Delilah Hansombe")
"Loki the Norse Satan"="Loki Orestes Nathan" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Salina Tenterhooks")
"Bartleby the Fallen Angel"="Bartleby Gale Hell-Enfant" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Bethany Belle Tallengraf")
"Satanic Princess"="Cristana Pisces" (if she was a boy, he'd be "Caspian Sincrest")
"Satan's Shadow"="Shawn Tassado" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Shasta Dawson")
"Reggie van Dough" (named after Richie Rich's evil cousin)="Geiger van Dough" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Ginger Eva Dough")
"Pwcca the Welsh Satan"="Newcastle Chapswath" (if he was a girl, she'd be "Chantal Watchsweeps")

With a fancy name like "Rover Cleveland DeMalte", he can now hold his head up with pride around all those other Stage Models. :)
"Starchier Inhuman Empire"??? Delilah, Salina, Bethany Belle, Cristana, Shasta, Ginger, and Chantal make a hamper reserve, if you ask me. ;)
