I think this was the name of Russell Crowe's character in "Gladiator". It's okay but I would prefer Marcus.

Russell Crowe played a Maximus in the film Gladiator.
(Personally, I'm surprised that I know of people who would consider Maximus a viable choice for a name. Maybe I'm alone in this, but since I had to memorize the main muscles and bones in elementary school, the name says nothing to me except "BUTT!" That gets followed by giggling, of course.)
