It's too much like the female name Huguette (I have a niece named that.)
Hugh just by itself is a good name.

To be quite honest I've never even heard of the name Huguette and I doubt that Hughett would be confused with Huguette in the U.S. Thank you though : )How do you pronounce your niece's name, hyoo-ET?

It's "You-get". A French name, she's originally French speaking. (the "h" is silent.)
