Dear all,
This has been quite the busy year so it is lovely to be able to sit with a hot mug of cocoa and write to you. Preparations for Christmas are going very well - the tree is up, the food is all bought and Jamie is out buying the very last of the kids' Christmas presents as I type.
I suppose the most important events of our year was the adoption of our two new grandsons Theo and Jamie (my Jamie is thrilled that he has a grandson named after him!) Jamie arrived very early in January and Sam and Lizzie were able to take him home on February 1st. They couldn't be more delighted after the terrible news that they would be unable to have biological children and I can honestly say there couldn't be a more deserving couple. Lizzie has given up her job teaching nursery children so that she can devote all of her time to Jamie and Sam has hired more hands at the restaurant so that he can work much less hours. The resaurant continues to thrive (did you see that fantastic review in the Scotsman?) and they moved into their new home this summer.
Little Theo arrived not long after Jamie, in April. As I told you last year, Annie and Ezra had decided to offer a foster home for newborn babies. They were doing a wonderful job but it was very hard for them to give the babies back, especially as they were struggling to get pregnant themselves. Anyway, in April, Theo arrived only two days old. He didn't have a name so they chose it themselves (isn't it cute!) His mother had had a difficult delivery and died three days after his birth. Annie and Ezra were offered the opportunity to foster Theo for a whole month, which they gladly accepted as they'd fallen in love with him (and with those big, blue eyes, who wouldn't?) During that month, they knew they couldn't bare to give him up so launched a request to adopt him. It was difficult and took a long, stressful time but in early November, Theo was finally all theirs.
Our other grandchildren are also continuing to flourish and are ridiculously spoiled by Jamie and I. Belle has moved into primary 3 and excels in all her subjects, especially music so she has started guitar and piano lessons like her daddy. Her biggest news is that she has found a 'boyfwend' named Josh - poor boy looks petrified of her. Lena has started primary school and after a slow start, seems to be doing well and has made a lot of friends. She's also started ballet lessons. Lucy, not wanting to be left out, now does gymnastics and is exhibiting quite a bit of talent for someone so young - maybe we have a little Olympic gymnast in training? Will has got a new job at a recording studio as a backing guitarist and has been working with some very influential bands. He's really enjoying the work and is glad he made the move from touring as he can now devote more time to his girls. Aurelia's English is improving rapidly and she can almost always understand me now!
Charlie is also doing well, accompanying Sylvie and Jem to the tennis courts whenever he can. Both are still playing and you will all have seen Jem playing in Wimbledon this year! We're so unbelievably proud of him and Sylvie. She's decided to give up playing professionally and is at college training to be a florist - she's very good!
That's it from us for now, Merry Christmas!
