Help[Opinions] WDYTO Thessalonia?
My ex often calls me from his next door neighbor's house because he doesn't have a phone of his own. The first name that comes up on the caller ID is Thessalonia. As far as I know, no one who lives there goes by that name, so I'm not sure what's up with that. I keep forgetting to ask him about it.
I can't find this name in this site's database, so I'm not sure if it's a real name or if someone made it up. It kind of sounds Greek to me. I actually like it, because it fits in with my preference for long (four or more syllable) girls' names that end in IA. Same reason I like Caledonia.
Have you ever heard this name before? And do you like it?

Thessalonia was a seacoast city in Macedonia inhabited by Greeks, Romans and Jews. Paul started a church according to the bible.

I don't know about Thessalonia, but I quite like Saloniki from Thessaloniki. Maybe not usable if you don't have strong connections with the city... But sweet.

Sounds like...
A derivative of Thessalonica which is the Latinate form of the Greek Thessalonike. Thessalonike was a Macedonian princess and the half-sister of Alexander the Great. Thessaloniki was named after her. Thessalonike means victory in Thessaly. It could also just be an elaborated form of Thessaly. I really like it, but I do prefer Thessalonike.

I prefer Fata Morgana

Thessalonia is a place name, as is Caledonia.
I know Caledonia is the ancient Roman name for Scotland. Thessalonia is (or was) in the region of Greece, but you'd have to google it for more information.
