Oh Lordie...That pronunciation makes me cringe. I'm pretty sure it's ech-an, with the gutteral ch, pronounced like in loch. I don't know which syllable the stress is on, though. It's definitely masculine and I can't even imagine it on a girl.

And she pronounced it that way? Never seen that before, and hopefully never will again. I do like it on a boy pronounced the Scottish way, though. I especially liked it during my Celtic phase last summer :D.
