Afanen is a Welsh girl's name that I would like to fall in love with.
The only hitch is I don't know how to pronounce it. I know in Welsh "f's" are pronounced like "v's." But is the stress on the first, second or third syllable? And are the "a's" short as in "apple" or do they have more of an "ah" sound.
I suspect I will love it no matter what the pronunciation. The thought of having a little raspberry for a dd is too cute.
I'm most interested in hearing from people in the UK / Wales who have first hand knowledge of the name. Please let me know if you are guessing, or if you really know how to say it. Thanks.

Basically everyone else has already said it, but I just checked with my sister, Aoife, and her husband is Welsh :)
I really really like it. I have to say that when I first read your message and I initially thought it was with the stress on the first syllable, I was in love. I don't like the really pronunciation quite so much but it is a great name.

I know! Wouldn't the stress on the first syllable be so much better?
But I've had the night to sleep it over and the real pronunciaiton is settling in nicely in my brain.

I think in Welsh the second syllable is usually stressed.
When I've heard this name before it was pronounced like "a-VAN-en", the "a's" being short as in "apple."

I wish the Welsh had checked with me first. I think "AV-uh-nen" is prettier. But if they won't, they won't.

I really like Afanen! I love the meaning of it.
In Welsh the stress is always on the second syllable. So it's pronounced roughly a-VAHN-en. I've never heard it said though, so I can't claim I'm right, I guess.

Thanks. May I ask what makes you pretty sure. Are you familiar with other Welsh names and you're making an educated guess? Or have you heard it before? Other?
