[Opinions] "Vanity" and "Great"
I actually heard these names mentioned in "the SantaLand Diaries" by David Sedaris, from his time at Santa's Village at Macy's. Each of these children came from different families, but still...
A girl named "Vanity" and a boy named "Great"? Oh great...! Sedaris definitely commented on how "Great" would run into snags.

Vanity like the pop star!? no thanks!
I think both names are quite awful. You can't help but wonder how much a name influences a kid's personality. These experts think names definitely have an impact on a kid's future: http://www.babyhold.com/babynames/Ideas/Cute_Dog_Names_Pet_Names/
I've heard of Vanity before - I don't quite get how the parents thought it had good connotations, I guess that's a sign of the materialistic society we live in. Verity is so much better.
Great is new, though I think it's better than Brick, Track, and Pants, other boy's names I've heard. Pants would definitely be the worst name I've ever heard.

"Pants"?
"Track" was pretty bad, but Pants? Oy vey!

I actually think Great is rather fun. Not fun in a "I'd name my firstborn this", but I really like how it looks. Great. Great! It would be an awesome pet name.
Vanity is very Puritan in a "Flee-Fornication" kind of way.... I like Verity better.

I would think that Vanity would run into more "snags" than Great.
