[Opinions] Kosta and Korana
In my quest to discuss names that are not mentioned here all the time Kosta and Korana caught my eye. An actor couple here has children named Kosta Kai and Korana and I've always found them cute (if a bit too heavy on the Ks -parents are Ksenija and Kristijan 'Kiki'). I think I like Kosta (and Kostya) better than Konstantin.
Korana is a place name here (it's a river).

I'm not really a fan of Kosta or Konstantin, but I appreciate them and would like to see them used on someone else. Konstantin nn Kosta is cool. Korana reminds me of the Qur'an, I don't like the look or sound. However, I LOVE Kristijan (spelt Christian) nn Kiki! That's very cool (I'm going to steal that idea . . .)

LOL, steal away:-) There are plenty of them here.

I suppose Kosta's ok on someone else's child, but I'd never use Korana 'cause it could cause unfortunate confusion and would always require explanation.

I knew the CUTEST little boy named Konstantin who was nicknamed Kosta. I LOVE it!
Don't like Korana, reminds me of the Koran (Qur'an).

I like Kosta, and agree that it's nicer than Konstantin - a bit more user-friendly. It might be problematic here though as it sounds like Costa, a fairly large coffee-shop chain.

Kosta means "to cost" in Swedish! :)
And Korana is too close to Koranen, which is Swedish for the Qur'an (don't misunderstand me, I have nothing against Moslems, but it would be like naming someone Bibla or Torah).
Hope you don't think I'm narrow-minded or something, they just sound like this to me...

I thought the same thing (except for the cost in Swedish part... I do know people of Finnish background w/ the surname Kostamo though). That's why I thought it would be too confusing for people and always have to be explained.

I'm glad you gave your honest opinion (I don't get people who ask for opinions and get offended if someone dislikes a name)! There are plenty of names that have funny meanings in Croatian. I've been thinking about Korana being too close to Koran/ Qur'an myself (it's not in Croatian, btw).

I agree on the krazy k's :P but I disagree on Kosta. I would pick Konstantine / Constantine over Kosta and maybe use Kosta as a nickname ... maybe ...? Korana I don't really care for. I do like that she is named after a river in her home country. EDIT - I wanted to add that I very much like Ksenija :)

I just wanted to add that they didn't make up Korana as a name, Korana was quite common in my generation (with names like Morana, Zorana, etc.).

Oh, I believe you ;)

Kosta's nice as a nn for Konstantin. Korana looks odd to me.
