The way that I say it, it doesn't rhyme with thirsty. I say it so that the vowel sound in the first syllable is the same as the sound in "weird". When we were teenagers, my sister had a friend named Kirsten, and she pronounced her name that way--the first syllable had the same vowel sound as "weird." I guess maybe that's influenced the way that I say Kirsty. I don't know which pronunciation is technically correct, or if they both are, or what, but that's the way I've always said it.

I think that pronounced the way that I do, it's less awkward, though. I like the name but don't love it---it is cute and peppy, as others have said.
