Unless it's a family name, my honest opinion is that you're trying a little hard to find something "unique". Having an extremely uncommon name isn't always a good thing.
If I had to choose though, I'd definitely use it on a boy because the -son ending is so obvious.

I rather like unique names and there really isn't anything wrong with having one. (unless its creative or made up I usually dislike those). Killian was rather GP and unique when I choose it and have had no problem so excuse me if I try to find a name that fits my unique taste!
