for a boy. I heard about this yesterday. The mother, unilingually French speaking , wanted a new and different name for her new baby boy, and as she liked the sound of Kayden and Jayden, decided, or made up, Mayden. In vain was it pointed out to her that she was in effect calling her little boy, "Girl" (Maiden).So that's his name.

If you over heard it and she was French are you sure she wasn't saying Maevane? It's a name that's pretty popular right now but I've never heard it on a boy though Mae is very popular

I was wondering why I liked the sound of this so much. Maiden is a super GP word-name I like, so that makes sense. Mayden is an ok spelling too. But for a boy... well, maybe most people will be as stupid as me and not figure it out until someone mentions it.

Nah, I had the same reaction! I love the sound of Maiden too. Handmaid(en) is a major GP for me. I saw it listed with Puritan names one time and was like DUDE.

Until you pointed out that it was maiden, I thought it was a neat name! Although I also thought it seemed more feminine. Now I know why. :P

I didn't even notice that the name is so similar to maiden. It's terrible. I feel sorry for the poor boy.

Eeeeeugh. The strange thing is, I can see how parents would logically arrive at this name. I can't see how they'd logically STAY on this name. That poor kid.

Ohhh :/ The sound is actually fine but the fact that it's a word is unfortunate. Hmmm. Yeah I don't like it. Maybe he'll change it to Aidan someday.

Hah. I actually didn't realize the "Maiden" thing at first- I noticed the May and the den, and I thought it was a trendy girl name like Maddisen crossed with the Hayden-rhyming. Ah well. :P
I think the "May" part is pretty feminine anyway though, even without the Mayden association.
Then again it also looks a bit like Madden, which I think is sort of trendy for boys.. meh.

I was all prepared to make a joke about her outgrowing her name when she became a "maytron," and then I saw it was for a boy. Eeesh.
Well, -ayden names are epidemically popular. Perhaps, if he's lucky, most people will focus on that and not pick up on its similarity to maiden.
