If you're in the Southwest, Jaime will be commonly pronounced HIGH-ME, which is the Spanish form of James. I know a girl named Jaime who had to the spelling of her name to a more feminine form when she married a Latino, because it was just too weird for her inlaws for their son to marry a woman w/ a man's name.

How do I hate Jaime for a girl? Let me count the ways:(1) "J'aime" is a phrase in French, pronounced "zhem." Not a name for either sex.
(2) Jamie is a traditional boy's nn, from James.
(3) Jaime is also a boy's name in Spanish, but pronounced "HIE-may."

*snort* but ditto!

Thanks for "j'aime"'s pronunciation!I always knew it certainly couldn't be pronounced JAY-mee, but never knew the correct way to say it.

To me, Jaime is a male Spanish name pronounced HY-mee. Jamie (or Jaymee, Jaimee, etc.) is a unisex name pronounced JAY-mee. I dislike it for a girl, but I like it for a boy as a nn for James.

I know more female Jaimes than males...While I know about 20 female Jaimes (all about my age - 20), I've only ever known ONE male Jaime... so I like the name for both genders.Well, actually I prefer James for a boy and Jaime as the nn and just Jaime for a girl's name.

Jaime's the Spanish male form of James. I'm afraid I only think of the name that way, pr. hie-ME.Besides, I highly doubt the French word j'aime is pronounced JAY-mee.

I can see Jaime, along with her sisters Ashley and Brittany, and maybe a brother Taylor. It's boring and thoughtless, IMO.

Sorry Jaime...It sounds like one of those names that parents come up with at the last minute "Well we just couldn't think of anything else..."I think that it could work on a girl, but it's just so unimaginative."We can even learn from our enemies." -OvidMitakuye Oyasin

It's a little boring and too unisex/tomboy for my taste. But maybe if you came up with a really great combo it could work. Maybe.

I prefer the spelling Jamie, and I prefer it on a boy. Jaime just seems so unimaginative and overused to me. I dislike it.
