[Opinions] Reginald
What do you think of the name Reginald? Even just as a name in general (so it doesn't have to be your impression on someone named Reginald in this century or whatever, but just as a whole - if you want to share that too, feel free!)It's a name I've been considering for a character, but I'm sort of on the fence about it. I do like how it sort of reminds me of Archibald and Ichabod, though.

Reginald is a perfect example of a P.G. Wodehouse name: so stuffy it's cute. And I love the idea of Rex as a nn for it. Win-win. Archilbald is another Wodehouse-esque name. Ichabod is silly and fun as well, although I get more of a colonial American vibe, as in Ichabod Crane and the headless horseman of Sleepy Hollow. The potential nn Icky is what keeps me from embracing the name Ichabod fully.

I use to have a boy-friend named Reginald (Reggie), so that's who I think of. It was a not-uncommon name, where I grew up, though nearly always nick-named. So to me, it's not an "upper-class " name, particularly.Though I can see some finding it so.

It's not bad, and I like. It's got a handsome sound to it, and I love the nn Reggie. :)

I like it. It is a bit fusty but that's part of the appeal, and Reggie is adorable. Archibald is great too, but I don't fancy the Ick in Ichabod.

Reginald is very stuffy to me. Reggie softens it a bit for me, and makes me like it a bit more. It's one of those names I'd expect to see either on a nobleman or a business tycoon in the past, someone wealthy and perhaps powerful, and but now I'd picture it more on a teenage kid playing basketball, I guess because I can't see anyone using Reginald now, and I get that impression more from Reggie. Archibald is a somewhat similar feel to me, though a bit more of a military vibe, whereas Ichabod to me is completely different, more obscure.

I think it's the most foppish name there is.

That sounds like a fun thread: Name the most foppish name you can think of. :-)

Reginald is closer to Archibald than Ichabod imo. I can see Reggie and Archie used in real life and the same style, but Ichabod is too closely related to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for use.

I wouldn't expect to meet a living Reginald! But I enjoy the kind of 1920s novels in which pleasant but dim young Reginald people play golf in plus-fours and finally get engaged to the heroine, who has seen their potential and will make something of them.

My great Grandad was called Reginald. I always thought it sounded a bit stuffy and pompous. He went by Reg which I don't like because it makes me think of cars. I do think Reggie is quite cute, though, and would fit in with the trend of nicknames for old fashioned names, e.g., Freddie, Archie, Alfie

I really don't like it.

I love it. It's so snooty-eccentric, and makes me think of blue-black hair and electricity and big old wingback chairs. But then, I love Archibald and Ichabod as well.

Yuck. It's like a typical nerd name that people would make fun of here. If they introduced a character on The Big Bang Theory named Reginald (unless one already exists, IDK) it would fit in easily. Regggggggggggggiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaalddddddddddd. Yeah, it doesn't have a pleasant sound to me. It fits nicely with Archibald, which I don't like either, though it is fun to say. I do like the nn Reggie. It's cute, even if it's ripe for "wedgie" jokes. I love Ichabod!
