[Opinions] Re: what's your nickname?
in reply to a message by vekalvin
I'm Caroline and when I was little my mum and sister called me Lina (lee-na). My mum still calls me Lina but she's the only one. If someone else would call me Lina it would be really weird.
Caro is the go to nickname for Caroline here and people I don't know well call me that sometimes. It's weird being called Caro. I know they mean me but it's not me. Just a few weeks ago I was teaching new police officers and suddenly one of the police officers started to call me Caro. He obviously just assumed that it was my nickname. I didn't correct him. But I have never been Caro and never will be.
I have two friends who call me Cissi but it started as a joke and it feels like that nickname has a connection to our history and our friendship. It's not just a random, assumed nickname.
And not a nickname but sometimes people call me Caro-LINE (which is not the standard pronunciation here) and I like that very much.
* Ellen * Astrid * Eira * August * Isidore * Emmanuel *
but she wants to be sure 'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
