[Opinions] Gus
I've been asking about a lot of girl names, lately, so WDTY of Gus? It's growing on me. I don't care that it's an old man name. Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

It has an appeal as a simple, unpretentious name. However, Gus is the name of the boxer dog my son and his wife have. So for me, that's a factor. Yep, it definitely has dog name vibes.

Sounds like the name of a horse for some reason. Maybe as a nickname, but only as a nickname.

I have always liked it. I have been seeing a lot of Guses in the birth announcements, so it is actually trendy right now.

I think it's pretty bad, and I also think it should remain a nickname for August or Augustus.

I like it especially as a nickname for Magnus, Angus and Fergus. I almost named my cat Gus or Magnus nn Gus.

Ooh Magnus nn Gus is fabulous. DH and I both like Magnus, but I feel like it is a bit weighty for a small one and don't like Mags for a boy. Perfect solution.

Oh, I forgot about Fergus. I do like that one.

I don't like it, it sounds boring and dated. August is nice though.

I love Gus. H was meant to be Augustine "Gus" but it didn't fit when he was born. I think it's cute and mostly see it on a little kid or an old man, but it would obviously work in the middle.

I think it's awful. It makes me think of a big, lazy, grubby dog with terrible gas.

I'd more likely use the fuller form - Gustav, though I can't imagine this form to be too popular in the US.Strangely, I only know of famous musicians of some or other sort with this name. Gustav HoltzGustav Mahler
&
and the young but popular of international esteem - Conductor Gustav Dudamel from Venezuela.

I like it as a girls' NN, haha. I guess it'd be okay as a guy's full name...like Russ or Ross.
My main issue with it as masculine is that I don't like August or Angus, but it could be a cute NN for Gustavus or Gaius...
